Makinde Welcomes Thousands of APC Defectors to APM at Ibadan Mega Concert, Predicts 2027 Landslide
Ibadan, Nigeria – September 21, 2026—In a high-energy political show of force, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday formally welcomed thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) during the Boye Nation/JAF Movement Mega Concert at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The defectors, drawn from several local government areas across the state, were led by Ajiboye Sangogade, popularly known as Boye Nation—a former personal assistant and key loyalist of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu.
The colorful event, themed “Young, United, Unstoppable,” blended music, youth mobilisation and politics as the group officially crossed over to the APM platform.
Addressing the large crowd, Makinde expressed strong confidence that the APM would secure a landslide victory in the 2027 general elections.
“God has signed off on what we are doing, and that is why it is raining today,” he declared.
“We are welcoming thousands of APC members into the Allied Peoples’ Movement, proving that our victory in 2027 is only a matter of time. We will win massively across the board.”
The governor, who is the APM’s presidential candidate, also used the occasion to respond to recent criticisms from the APC governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, over the state’s use of diesel-powered streetlights.
Makinde attributed the measure to the Federal Government’s failure to resolve Nigeria’s electricity crisis, recalling campaign promises by the ruling party’s leadership to fix the power sector.
He advised the APC candidate to focus his energy on competing against the APM’s governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, rather than attacking the current administration’s record.
The mega concert featured electrifying performances by popular Fuji artists including Alhaji Taye Currency, Alhaji Tiri Leather, Babatunmise, Ajeseun Band, and Aare Rasaq Ayanfe.
Dignitaries present included the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff to the Governor, National Assembly members, commissioners, APM leaders, and the party’s full slate of senatorial, House of Representatives, House of Assembly and local government chairmanship candidates.
The defection marks another significant realignment in Oyo State’s fluid political landscape ahead of 2027. Sangogade’s move, along with his supporters, is widely seen as a notable boost to the APM’s grassroots structure, particularly among youth and former APC networks linked to the Adelabu political family.
Makinde’s administration has consistently framed the APM as a platform for continuity of people-centered governance in Oyo while positioning the party as a national alternative.
