Oyo Police Arrest Three Suspects, Recover Stolen Hyundai Sonata from Lagos
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected car thieves and recovered a stolen white Hyundai Sonata saloon car that was taken from Lagos and later traced to Ibadan.
According to a press release issued on Monday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the vehicle, with registration number ABC 882 GK, was stolen on 13 September 2026 at about 7:30 a.m. while parked in Shangisha, Magodo, Lagos.
The incident was reported to the Oyo State Police Command on 16 September at about 4:00 p.m. by Tayo Ogunubi of Challenge Area, Ibadan, after the car was sighted around the Ojoo area of the city.
Acting on the report, Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga directed the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad to investigate.
Using technology, intelligence-driven policing, and coordinated operational efforts, the squad traced the vehicle to the Akinyele Area of Ibadan, where it was successfully recovered.
Three suspects were arrested in connection with the theft: Abdulramon Hassan, 49; Abdullahi Sani, 43; and Sulaimon Adamu, 53.
During preliminary investigation, the suspects confessed to their involvement and are currently cooperating with investigators as efforts continue to uncover the wider activities of the syndicate and identify other persons connected to the crime.
The recovered vehicle has been secured at a police facility, while the suspects remain in custody.
The Commissioner has ordered that the investigation be intensified and concluded expeditiously, after which the suspects and any other persons found culpable will be charged to court in accordance with the law.
CP Olugbenga commended the officers involved in the operation and urged members of the public to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious activities, and provide credible information to the police.
He reassured residents of Oyo State that the Command remains committed to protecting lives and property, disrupting criminal networks and bringing perpetrators to justice.
