INEC Begins 100-Day Countdown to 2027 Elections with Major Stakeholders Briefing in Abuja
Abuja, NigeriaβOctober 6, 2026βNigeriaβs Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is today holding a high-profile World Press Conference and National Stakeholdersβ Meeting to mark the official start of the 100-day countdown to the 2027 general elections.
The event, scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, will be led by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN.
It is expected to provide a comprehensive update on the Commissionβs state of readiness as the country moves into the critical final phase of election preparations.

Who Will Be in the Room

Invited participants include political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organizations, election observer groups, disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organizations, and media executives.

The Road to 2027
Under INECβs revised timetable, the presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for 16 January 2027, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will follow on 6 February 2027.
The Commission has already completed several major milestones, including the publication of the final list of presidential candidates and the opening of campaigns.
A nationwide collection of Permanent Voter Cards for newly registered voters is also set to begin later this week.
