Oyo Police Arrest 21-Year-Old Cable Vandal in Ogbomoso, Recover ₦2.69m Cables
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, Ayomide Ojo, for allegedly vandalizing and stealing house-wiring cables valued at about ₦2.69 million in Ogbomoso.
Operatives of the Monitoring Unit attached to Ogbomoso Base made the arrest at about 5:30 a.m. on 21 September 2026 while on anti-crime patrol along Bosunla Street.
They stopped the suspect after noticing him carrying a sack bag heavily loaded with house-wiring cables believed to have been removed from a building under construction within the township.
During preliminary interrogation, Ojo confessed to vandalizing the cables with one Warris, who remains at large.
He told the police the cables were taken from an uncompleted building opposite Akala House in Ogbomoso.
Police officers immediately visited the scene and contacted the property owner, Salaudeen Rasaq. Upon inspection, Rasaq estimated the value of the stolen cables at ₦2,692,000.
Investigations are ongoing. Police say they are working to arrest the fleeing accomplice and identify others involved in the criminal chain, especially those who buy and dispose of vandalized cables.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting both public and private infrastructure across the state.
It urged residents to promptly report any information about cable vandals, thieves, and receivers of stolen materials.

Cable vandalism continues to pose a serious challenge in many parts of Nigeria, often leaving homeowners and developers with heavy financial losses.
The latest arrest in Ogbomoso forms part of the Command’s sustained efforts to curb the crime and protect infrastructure across Oyo State.
