Abuja, June 10, 2026 — In a swift and determined late-night operation, operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command rescued five kidnapped victims and neutralised two suspected kidnappers in the Byazhin area of Abuja.

The rescue followed the abduction of five residents from the Paze Community in Byazhin Ward of Bwari Area Council last week. The incident had heightened fears among residents in the community, which has increasingly become a flashpoint for criminal activities.

Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi personally led a joint security team on a coordinated clearance and rescue mission across Paze and Byazhin communities on Tuesday night. The operation turned into a fierce gun battle with the suspected criminals.

During the exchange of fire, two members of the kidnapping gang were killed. Two others were arrested, while several accomplices escaped with gunshot wounds. Security operatives recovered two AK-47 rifles and magazines from the scene.

The five victims, who had been held captive, were abandoned by their captors during the intense confrontation. They were rescued unharmed and immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. Efforts are ongoing to reunite them with their relieved families.

Speaking after the operation, CP Sanusi said the police decided to take the fight directly to the criminals. “We brought the war to them, we were tired of waiting for them,” he stated.

The FCT Police Command has intensified search operations in Byazhin and surrounding communities to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network. The command has also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or security agencies.

This successful operation comes days after another foiled kidnapping attempt in the same Byazhin area, underscoring the persistent security challenges in parts of the Federal Capital Territory and the renewed determination of security agencies to protect lives and restore calm in affected communities.
