EFCC Arraigns Lagos Man Over N90.9m Money Laundering
Lagos, June 10, 2026— The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday arraigned a man, Fidelix Samuel Ebuka, before Justice Yellim Bogoro of the Federal High Court in Lagos over allegations of retaining proceeds of unlawful activities worth nearly N91 million.
Ebuka, who appeared before the court via the Lagos Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, was charged with a one-count offence of money laundering. According to the charge, he allegedly retained the sum of **N90,989,517** (Ninety Million, Nine Hundred and Eighty-Nine Thousand, Five Hundred and Seventeen Naira), said to be proceeds of unlawful activities, in violation of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
The brief court appearance marks another step in the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to recover illicit funds and hold individuals accountable for financial crimes that undermine the economy and erode public trust.
Money laundering remains one of the most damaging financial crimes in Nigeria. It allows criminals to disguise the origins of illegally obtained money — often from fraud, corruption, or other offences — and integrate it into the legitimate financial system. When successful, such acts distort the economy, fuel inequality, and deprive ordinary Nigerians of resources that could have been used for infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
The EFCC’s decision to bring Ebuka before the court reflects its sustained focus on tracing and recovering such funds, no matter the amount. While the specific source of the alleged unlawful proceeds was not detailed in the charge sheet presented in court, the Commission’s action underscores its commitment to following the money trail wherever it leads.
Justice Yellim Bogoro presided over the arraignment at the Federal High Court in Lagos. The case is still at an early stage, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. Details on his plea, any application for bail, or the next adjourned date were not immediately available at the time of filing this report.
The EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate continues to handle a significant number of high-profile financial crime cases, reflecting the scale of economic and financial offences concentrated in Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre.
This arraignment comes at a time when the EFCC has intensified its operations across the country, targeting various forms of financial misconduct. The Commission has repeatedly emphasised that no one is above the law, regardless of status or connections. Cases like this serve as a reminder that the fight against corruption and financial crimes is not just about big names or headline-grabbing figures — it extends to every individual alleged to have benefited from or facilitated illicit activities.
For many Nigerians struggling with the harsh economic realities, such enforcement actions represent a measure of accountability. They signal that the system is working to recover stolen or laundered wealth that rightfully belongs to the public.
The EFCC has urged members of the public with useful information about financial crimes to come forward and assist in its investigations. The Commission maintains that collective vigilance remains key to building a cleaner and more transparent financial system.
The matter was adjourned for further proceedings. The EFCC said it would continue to diligently prosecute the case in line with the law.
