IGP Disu Urges Data-Driven Policing to Modernise Force
Abuja, June 10, 2026 — Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed investigators and heads of investigative units nationwide to prioritise the accurate capture and management of suspects’ information.
The move forms part of a broader push to strengthen intelligence-led policing and modernise criminal investigations within the Nigeria Police Force.
The charge was delivered on Wednesday during the opening of a One-Day Crime and Incident Database Impact Sensitization Workshop organised by the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The workshop was convened to sensitise participants on the Suspects’ Information Capturing Process under the Nigeria Police Force Crime and Incident Database (NPF-ICD) Centre Project.
Speaking at the event, IGP Disu stressed that modern policing is increasingly driven by timely, accurate, and actionable data.
He noted that effective law enforcement can no longer depend solely on conventional investigative methods in an era of sophisticated criminal networks and evolving security threats.
“The Crime and Incident Database Centre represents a critical national policing asset capable of improving investigative outcomes, tracking criminal trends, identifying repeat offenders, linking crimes across jurisdictions, and supporting informed operational and strategic decision-making,” the IGP said.
Strategic Initiative for Crime Management
The NPF-ICD Centre Project is a strategic initiative designed to enhance crime analysis, intelligence gathering, evidence-based investigations, inter-agency collaboration, and proactive crime prevention. It aims to create a robust, centralised system that will serve as a reliable repository for criminal data, enabling faster and more accurate responses to security challenges.
IGP Disu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the modernisation of policing through technology, innovation, and intelligence-led strategies. He called for greater compliance with established suspects’ information capturing procedures across all Commands and Formations, urging participants to actively engage in the workshop and develop practical solutions that will enhance operational efficiency and strengthen the Force’s overall crime management architecture.
Broader Reform Context
The workshop comes as part of ongoing reforms under IGP Disu aimed at transforming the Nigeria Police Force into a more professional, technology-driven, and citizen-focused institution. By prioritising data management and digital tools, the Force seeks to move away from reactive policing toward proactive, evidence-based operations that can better anticipate and prevent crime.
The initiative also supports wider national efforts to improve inter-agency coordination and strengthen the criminal justice system through reliable data sharing and analysis.
Commitment to Public Safety
The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to leveraging technology, innovation, and intelligence-led policing to improve service delivery, strengthen public safety, and build greater public trust in the institution.
