Abuja, Nigeria—October 26, 2026—Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has strongly criticized Peter Obi and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) over the appointment of retired Major General John Enenche as Director of Security and Intelligence in the party’s National Campaign Council for the 2027 elections.

In a post on X, Sowore described the move as “part of the deception and a direct attack on #EndSARS victims” as well as those he accused of betraying the movement for political gain.

Criticism of the Appointment

“Appointing General Enenche was part of the deception and a direct attack on #ENDSARS victims and also the hypocrites who betrayed #Endsars for a pot of porridge,” Sowore wrote.

He referred to Enenche as the “Buhari-era #ENDSARS denier,” recalling the retired general’s earlier description of videos from the October 2020 Lekki Toll Gate shootings as “photoshopped.” Enenche served as Director of Defence Information during the #EndSARS protests.

The NDC named Enenche for the sensitive security and intelligence role as part of its newly constituted campaign structure, chaired by National Leader Senator Seriake Dickson with Peter Obi as co-chairman.

Allegations Against Peter Obi

Sowore further alleged that Obi “doesn’t give a farthing” about the concerns of #EndSARS victims. He claimed the former Anambra governor supervised the killing of IPOB activists with the assistance of former SARS officer CSP James Nwafor and the dumping of bodies in the Ezu River during his tenure.

“These allegations deserve independent investigation, not political excuses,” Sowore stated, adding that supporters of Obi had begun “selling political snake oil to Nigerians” and now regard Enenche as their new hero.

Background and Reactions

Enenche had previously featured on an earlier list of Peter Obi’s 2023 Labour Party campaign team before being removed following public outcry from #EndSARS supporters.

His reappearance in a more senior security role for the NDC has reignited debate about consistency on issues of police brutality and accountability.

The appointment forms part of the NDC’s broader campaign organization for the 2027 presidential race, in which Obi is the party’s candidate.

Sowore, a longtime activist and founder of Sahara Reporters, continues to position himself as a radical alternative, frequently criticizing both the ruling APC and major opposition figures.

This report is based on Omoyele Sowore’s statement on X and contemporaneous coverage of the NDC campaign council appointments on October 26, 2026.
