IGP Disu Arrives Imo State for CARSPO 2026 to Map 2027 Election Security
Owerri, Imo State – September 20, 2026—Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olutunji Rilwan Disu, has arrived in Imo State to kick off the Sixth Annual Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO 2026), a strategic gathering aimed at strengthening the Nigeria Police Force’s readiness for the 2027 general elections.
The official Nigeria Police Force account confirmed the IGP’s arrival on Sunday, noting that the conference provides a platform for senior officers to examine contemporary security challenges, refine operational strategies, and deepen collaboration with sister agencies and other stakeholders.
The event forms part of ongoing efforts to boost institutional preparedness ahead of the polls.
Conference Focus and Theme
Scheduled for September 21 to 23 (with some reports indicating up to September 24) at the Landmark Event Centre in Owerri, CARSPO 2026 carries the theme “Developing a Nigeria Police Roadmap for Effective Management of Security During Elections.”
Deliberations will centre on intelligence-led policing, police-community partnerships, the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, and other modern approaches to secure the electoral process.
The goal is to produce practical strategies that protect voters, electoral personnel, candidates, materials and the general public before, during, and after the 2027 elections.
The conference primarily targets officers of the rank of Commissioner of Police and above, alongside policing experts and key stakeholders. It is organized in collaboration with Lenders Consult International.
Security Measures and State Support
Imo State Police Command has already intensified security across the state. Commissioner of Police Garba Bosso confirmed that personnel have been deployed to the venue, hotels, major routes, the airport corridor, and other strategic points.
Traffic wardens have also been stationed to ease movement, while officers have been directed to operate professionally and respect citizens’ rights.
Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration is hosting the event for the third time and has expressed readiness to welcome participants, including high-level dignitaries.

The Nigeria Police Force has previously engaged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on security planning, activating measures such as intelligence mapping, coordination of electoral material movement, inter-agency collaboration, and countering misinformation.

Force Public Relations Officer CSP Ani Iniedu earlier described the retreat as part of the Force’s commitment to strategic leadership, professionalism, and operational readiness for a peaceful electoral environment.
