Jibrin Hails Tinubu’s Kano Appointments, Predicts Strong 2027 Support in State

Abuja, August 21, 2026 — Member representing the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has described President Bola Tinubu’s performance as excellent, citing the appointment of more than 40 key Kano indigenes into federal government positions as clear evidence of the administration’s commitment to the state.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Thursday, Jibrin argued that the volume of high-level appointments provides a compelling reason for Kano people to support Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

“He has done excellently well; he has given Kano over 40 key political appointments in the Federal Government. Why will Kano people not vote him?” the lawmaker stated.

Among the appointments highlighted in public discourse are positions held by Kano natives such as Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory Mariya Bunkure, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria board chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, and Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria chairman Nasiru Gawuna. Jibrin’s claim of “over 40” key appointments has not been independently verified in full from publicly available records.

Addressing Hardship and Communication Gaps

When asked how the government would respond to the struggles of ordinary citizens—the talakawa—who continue to face economic hardship, hunger, and high living costs, Jibrin pointed to what he described as communication gaps.

He said many residents were not fully aware of ongoing projects and services that benefit them.

He cited the completion of the Bichi railway station and the volume of patients receiving care at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital as examples of achievements that, in his view, have not been adequately communicated to the public.

Confidence in the 2027 Battle in Kano

Jibrin also expressed confidence that Tinubu would defeat former Kano governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in the state in 2027.

Kwankwaso is the vice presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The lawmaker, a former political associate of Kwankwaso who is now aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC), said familiarity with the Kwankwasiyya movement’s strengths and weaknesses would give the ruling party an edge.

He noted a significant difference between Kwankwaso running as a presidential candidate versus appearing as a running mate.

Jibrin’s comments come amid ongoing political realignments in Kano ahead of the next general election.

While supporters of the appointments view them as evidence of inclusion and reward, critics on social media and in public discourse have questioned whether political patronage alone translates into tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary residents.

As the 2027 race intensifies, the conversation in Kano is likely to remain focused on the balance between political representation and measurable development outcomes for the state’s large population.
