Rosario / Miami – August 8, 2026 — Jorge Messi, the father and longtime agent of football legend Lionel Messi, has died at the age of 68. Argentine media outlets, including Infobae and Rosario3, reported that he passed away on Friday night, August 7, around 10 p.m. local time in a clinic in his hometown of Rosario after a prolonged battle with illness.

Jorge Horacio Messi was far more than a parent. He served as Lionel’s agent and trusted adviser for much of his career, handling contracts, business affairs, and major career decisions while largely staying out of the public spotlight.
His influence began early. When a young Lionel was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency, Jorge accompanied his 13-year-old son to Spain so the boy could continue his development at FC Barcelona.

Born in Rosario, Jorge previously worked as a manager at a steel factory before dedicating himself fully to supporting his son’s path.
