Abuja, June 10, 2026 — Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has warmly praised a long-running partnership between the Kukah Centre and Spain’s ProFuturo Foundation, which is bringing quality digital education to children in some of Nigeria’s most vulnerable communities.

Shettima made the remarks on Wednesday while receiving a high-level delegation from both organizations at the Presidential Villa. The delegation was led by the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah.

The Vice President highlighted how the initiative aligns perfectly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the country’s broader push for skills development through the National Council on Skills. “This kind of partnership supports our quest for skills education,” he noted.

Years of Tangible Impact

Since the partnership began in 2017, the ProFuturo programme has recorded impressive results. Shettima expressed satisfaction with the noticeable improvements in school enrollment, teacher training, and the overall quality of teaching and learning in supported schools.

ProFuturo, a global digital education initiative of the Telefónica Foundation and Fundación ”la Caixa,” focuses on equipping vulnerable schools with technology, training teachers in digital pedagogy, and providing interactive learning tools. In Nigeria, the collaboration with the Kukah Centre has helped bridge the digital divide in underserved areas, giving children better access to modern education that prepares them for the future.

A Meeting of Minds

During the courtesy visit, Shettima was briefed on the program’s achievements so far. He commended the dedication of both the Kukah Centre and ProFuturo for their sustained commitment to improving education outcomes where they are needed most.

Bishop Kukah and the ProFuturo team presented updates on their work, which includes training teachers, supplying digital equipment, and creating engaging learning environments in communities that have historically lagged behind in access to quality education.

Photographs from the meeting show the Vice President engaged in discussions with the delegation, including Bishop Kukah, in a formal setting at the Presidential Villa, underscoring the importance the administration places on such collaborative efforts.

Why It Matters

In a country where millions of children still struggle with limited access to basic education — let alone digital tools — initiatives like this offer real hope. By focusing on teacher capacity and student engagement through technology, the partnership is helping to equip young Nigerians with the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

For parents in remote or disadvantaged areas, seeing their children gain confidence with computers and modern learning methods is more than just an educational upgrade — it’s a lifeline of opportunity.

The Vice President’s endorsement signals continued government support for private and faith-based partnerships that deliver results on the ground. As Nigeria works towards its education and human capital development goals, models like the Kukah Centre-ProFuturo collaboration demonstrate the power of strategic alliances in tackling long-standing challenges.

Shettima wished the team continued success and encouraged them to expand their reach even further. The meeting ended on a hopeful note, with both sides committed to strengthening this impactful partnership for the benefit of Nigeria’s children.
