23 Brigade HQ Gets Major Facelift as Commander Urges Value Addition
Yola, Adamawa State — June 10, 2026 — In a clear demonstration of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving working conditions for its personnel, the Headquarters of 23 Brigade in Yola has undergone significant renovation, bringing a fresh, functional environment to officers and soldiers serving in the region.
Brigadier General Amechi Agwu, Commander of 23 Brigade, inspected the completed projects on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
He used the occasion to charge supporting commanders and staff officers to add meaningful value to their respective offices and duties.
The upgrades include the installation of a 15 KVA solar inverter, solar street lights across the headquarters, full renovation and painting of the office complex, and the upgrading of access roads.
These improvements, according to Brigadier General Agwu, will create a more conducive atmosphere for personnel to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
Speaking during the inspection, the commander emphasized the importance of proper maintenance of Army facilities.
“The enhancement of the Nigerian Army facilities would create a conducive atmosphere for the personnel to discharge their constitutional duties,” he said.
He urged officers to “tow the line of committed maintenance of the service property in their care” in alignment with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy.
Brigadier General Agwu expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for the support extended to the Brigade and pledged judicious use of all provided resources.
Human Impact on Troops
For soldiers and officers stationed in Yola, these upgrades are more than just infrastructure projects—they represent a tangible investment in their welfare.
Reliable power through solar solutions, better lighting for security and movement at night, improved office spaces, and smoother roads can reduce daily frustrations and boost morale in an area where operational demands remain high.
The 23 Brigade plays a vital role in securing parts of the Northeast, a region that continues to face security challenges.
Providing decent working and living conditions helps sustain the readiness and effectiveness of the troops who put their lives on the line daily.
This initiative reflects a broader push within the Nigerian Army under the current leadership to modernize facilities, promote self-reliance through solar energy adoption, and instill a culture of maintenance and accountability among officers.
Captain OO Abidoye, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 23 Brigade, confirmed the details of the projects and the Commander’s directives in an official statement released on June 9, 2026.
The Nigerian Army continues to balance operational commitments with efforts to improve the welfare and environment of its personnel, recognizing that a motivated force is better equipped to serve and protect the nation.
