Ibadan, Oyo State - A major breakthrough has been recorded in the fight against kidnapping in Nigeria following the successful rescue of a woman and her twin sons who were abducted earlier this week in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed on Saturday evening that Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin boys, Peter and Paul, have been safely rescued after spending several days in captivity.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the victims were kidnapped on June 3, 2026, while Mrs. Adegoke was taking her children to school in Ibadan.

The incident, which reportedly occurred around 7:30 a.m., sparked widespread concern across social media, with many Nigerians demanding swift action from security agencies.

After days of intensive intelligence gathering and surveillance, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) tracked the suspects to their hideout.

The rescue operation culminated in a tactical confrontation with the kidnappers at approximately 7:30 p.m. on June 6.

Police authorities disclosed that two suspected members of the kidnapping gang were fatally wounded during the operation, while two rifles were recovered from the scene.

The remaining members of the gang reportedly fled, some believed to have sustained gunshot injuries.

Most importantly, Mrs. Adegoke and her sons were rescued unharmed and have since been placed under medical observation and psychological support to aid their recovery after the traumatic ordeal.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the bravery and professionalism displayed by the FID-IRT operatives, describing the operation as a testament to the dedication of officers working tirelessly to combat violent crimes across the country.

Security agencies have also intensified manhunts for the fleeing suspects, with investigators expressing confidence that additional arrests will be made in the coming days.

Preliminary intelligence suggests that members of the syndicate remain within the region.

The successful rescue has been widely welcomed by Nigerians on social media, many of whom commended the police for preventing what could have ended in tragedy.

The operation also underscores the growing importance of intelligence-led policing in tackling kidnapping and organized criminal networks.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property while urging citizens to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
