ADO-EKITI, NIGERIA — A self-proclaimed prophet and his accomplice have been remanded at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre following allegations of extortion, sexual assault, and the terrorization of residents in the Ijadu area of the state capital.

The principal suspect, Adedokun Isaac Moses, who operated a ministry in the Ijadu community, was arraigned alongside his associate, Jide Aje (popularly known as “Baba Ibeji Onigi”), before Magistrate Court I in Ado-Ekiti.

While the formal police charges present on the court docket list “threat to life” and “conduct likely to cause a breach of peace,” prosecution details reveal a broader pattern of alleged midnight rituals, forced financial transfers, and rape.

The suspects’ remand followed a series of formal complaints by community members who claimed to have lived in fear of the prophet’s activities for an extended period.

According to local sources, Ijadu community leaders had repeatedly summoned Moses to address growing allegations of misconduct, but the cleric consistently failed to appear.

Fearing an escalation of hostilities, residents filed petitions with the state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

An subsequent investigation by the corps led to the arrest and eventual prosecution of both Moses and Aje.

Presiding Magistrate Adeosun ordered that both defendants be remanded in custody pending further proceedings. The matter was adjourned to June 15 for continuation.

The prosecution’s case is heavily anchored on the testimony of a local trader, Adeniyi Adejoke, known locally as *Tangbogbo*.

In a statement, Adejoke disclosed that Moses initially approached her with a spiritual prophecy, claiming her life was in danger and demanding an emergency prayer intervention.

According to Adejoke, she initially attended the church service accompanied by her mother. However, Moses allegedly insisted that the vital portion of the prayers required a “spiritual bath” that had to be conducted at a separate, private location.

Adejoke stated that at approximately 1:00 AM, Moses escorted her to a cemetery located near her business premises in Ijadu to perform the ritual.

Following the graveyard session, the suspect allegedly moved her to the residence of a church member, identified as Ahmed Abiola, where he allegedly assaulted her.

The victim further alleged that immediately following the assault, Moses coerced her into transferring ₦200,000—the entirety of her savings—from her mobile banking app, instructing her to delete the transaction logs immediately.

He said I would die if I told anyone,” Adejoke stated, explaining that the threat of a spiritual curse kept her silent for months.

During the period of her silence, Moses allegedly leveraged the threats to extort additional cash payments from her, bringing the total financial loss to over ₦1 million.

Adejoke stated that the financial drain and subsequent psychological trauma resulted in the complete collapse of her trading business, mounting family debt, and severe strain on her husband’s livelihood.

The suspects are scheduled to make their next court appearance on June 15 at Magistrate Court I, Ado-Ekiti. Both Adedokun Isaac Moses and Jide Aje will remain in custody at the correctional facility until the adjourned date.
