Manchester, England—October 27, 2026—Michael Carrick is set to be given time to turn around Manchester United’s fortunes and is expected to remain in charge for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

According to reports from senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs, training is taking place as usual at Carrington, signalling that the under-pressure head coach retains the support of the club hierarchy for now.

Context of Growing Pressure

Carrick’s position came under intense scrutiny after a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday, which extended United’s winless run to eight games in all competitions.

The result followed a heavy 4-1 Champions League loss to Como earlier in the week.

The Red Devils currently sit in the lower half of the Premier League table, just one point above the relegation zone, raising concerns among supporters and within the club.

United chiefs, including co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, CEO Omar Berrada, and director of football Jason Wilcox, held crisis talks following the Bournemouth reverse. However, no decision has been taken to dismiss Carrick at this stage.

Club’s Current Stance

Sources indicate the board wants to give Carrick and the players the opportunity to respond and reverse the recent decline.

The manager arrived at the training ground early on Tuesday and is preparing the squad for the trip to West London.

Potential replacements such as Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann have been linked with the role should a change be made, but the immediate priority remains allowing Carrick to continue.

United face a challenging run of fixtures, including the Chelsea match, a Champions League home game against Roma, and a Premier League meeting with Aston Villa before the next international break.

Carrick, who was appointed permanently in May after a successful interim spell that helped the team finish third last season, has previously expressed confidence that the side can regain its form.
