Gombe, Nigeria – October 15, 2026—Gombe State has released ₦149,224,806 as its counterpart contribution under a landmark partnership with the Aliko Dangote Foundation, enabling 28,284 vulnerable women to each receive 20 shares in the ongoing Dangote Petroleum Refinery Initial Public Offering (IPO).

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya approved the payment, covering women across the state’s 11 Local Government Areas and 13 Local Council Development Areas.

Under the arrangement, the state’s funds secure 10 shares for each beneficiary, while the Aliko Dangote Foundation matches with another 10 shares, bringing the total to 20 shares per woman.

First State to Complete Funding

Ms. Zouera Yusuf, Head of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, confirmed that Gombe is the first state in Nigeria to fully meet the counterpart funding requirement for the initiative.

She praised the governor’s commitment to women’s empowerment and noted that the partnership will promote economic opportunities for women and their households.

The programme is designed to support financial inclusion, wealth creation, and sustainable poverty reduction by giving vulnerable women access to financial assets and long-term economic resilience.

Broader National Push

The Gombe intervention forms part of a wider Aliko Dangote Foundation drive to help up to two million vulnerable women nationwide—including widows, women in extreme poverty, and those affected by conflict—acquire shares in the Dangote Refinery through partnerships with state governments.

To ensure transparency and effective delivery, the Gombe State Government has inaugurated a multisectoral committee comprising officials from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

The move positions Gombe as a frontrunner in translating the “People’s IPO” vision into tangible ownership opportunities for ordinary citizens, particularly women who have historically had limited access to capital-market investments.

This report is based on official statements from the Gombe State Government and the Aliko Dangote Foundation released on October 15, 2026.
