**Abuja, Nigeriaβ€”October 14, 2026β€”**Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed the All Progressives Congress (APC) expanded presidential campaign council as β€œa crowded confession of Tinubu’s fear,” accusing President Bola Tinubu of prioritizing political alliances over the economic hardship and insecurity facing ordinary Nigerians.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council, Atiku said the length of the revised list revealed a president more eager to count politicians than answer for what citizens have endured under his administration.

β€œOnly a man afraid of his record would think he could bury it under hundreds of names. Tinubu can gather every governor, minister and political defector in Nigeria.

None of them can erase the hunger in people’s homes, bring back those killed by violence, or free Nigerians still held captive. Their families are waiting for answers, not another campaign list,” Atiku stated.

Collecting Politicians Like Shields

The former vice-president accused Tinubu of responding to earlier criticism of the initial campaign list by producing an even longer one that reached into other parties for more names.

β€œHe is collecting politicians like shields against public judgment,” Atiku said, noting that figures such as FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo were among those included in the expanded council.

He argued that no amount of political heavyweights could address the cost of living, restore purchasing power or explain why the sacrifices demanded of ordinary Nigerians appear not to extend to the political class.

Criticism of Aso Rock Inauguration

Atiku also condemned the decision to inaugurate the campaign council inside the Presidential Villa, describing it as a breach of public trust.

β€œThe Presidential Villa belongs to the Nigerian people. It is not a campaign venue or the private property of any political party,” he said, questioning why the event was held at night behind the gates of Aso Rock rather than in a public space.

Looking Ahead to 2027

The ADC candidate insisted that the real measure of the administration’s record would come on election day.

β€œOn January 16, Nigerians will answer with one question: Are we better off under Bola Tinubu?” he asked, adding that the list of citizens determined to reject the president’s re-election is far longer than any campaign council.

The remarks come as the 2027 presidential race intensifies, with Tinubu seeking a second term on the APC platform while Atiku contests under the ADC banner.

This report is based on Atiku Abubakar’s statement released through the ADC Presidential Campaign Council on October 14, 2026, and related coverage.
