Sokoto, Nigeriaβ€”October 12, 2026β€”Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, representing Sokoto South and former Governor of Sokoto State, on Sunday evening joined family members, friends, and associates at the funeral prayers for the late Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi Romo in Sokoto.

Alhaji Romo, a retired Permanent Secretary in the Sokoto State Civil Service, passed away on Sunday at a hospital in Abuja. His remains were later brought to Sokoto for burial according to Islamic rites.

In a statement posted on his official X account, Senator Tambuwal described the deceased as β€œa seasoned administrator” who had a distinguished career spanning several ministries, departments, and agencies.

He particularly recalled Romo’s tenure as Executive Secretary of the Sokoto State Primary Health Care Development Agency during his administration as governor between 2015 and 2023.

β€œLast night, I joined family members, friends, and associates at the funeral prayers for our late brother and friend, Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi Romo,” Tambuwal wrote.

He prayed that Almighty Allah would forgive the late administrator’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give the bereaved family and all mourners the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.

Photographs shared by the senator showed the funeral procession at night, with military personnel and civilians accompanying the body, reflecting the respect Romo commanded among colleagues and the wider community.

Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi Romo was widely regarded within Sokoto’s civil service circles as a dedicated public servant who contributed to the state’s health sector during a critical period of primary healthcare reforms.

His service under the Tambuwal administration formed part of broader efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery across the state.

The attendance of the former governor and current senator underscores the personal and professional ties that often endure beyond political office in northern Nigeria’s administrative and political networks.

Colleagues and associates have continued to offer prayers for the repose of the late administrator’s soul.

As the family and community continue to mourn, the passing of Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi Romo serves as a reminder of the quiet contributions of career civil servants who shape public service away from the political spotlight.
