IGP Disu Inspects 23 Barracks, Pledges Better Police Housing
Abuja, Nigeria—September 6, 2026—Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu has carried out a wide-ranging inspection of 23 police barracks, underscoring his administration’s focus on improving the living conditions of officers and their families as a core part of ongoing police reforms.
In an official statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the IGP assessed residential quarters and related welfare infrastructure.
He engaged directly with personnel and residents, identifying priority areas that require urgent rehabilitation and sustained investment.
Disu reaffirmed that officers who risk their lives daily to protect lives and property deserve decent, conducive living environments.
He linked improved housing and welfare facilities to higher morale, better well-being, and stronger operational performance across the Nigeria Police Force.

Reports indicate that roughly 21 redevelopment and rehabilitation projects are underway in the state, with about 600 buildings already refurbished.

During those visits, the IGP expressed concern over long-standing dilapidation of some facilities, noting that certain structures had deteriorated over decades and would require demolition to make way for modern developments.
He also flagged delays in some redevelopment projects and ordered steps to reclaim police land occupied by unauthorized persons.
Partnerships with the Lagos State Government and private developers under frameworks such as LagosHOMS are expected to deliver additional housing units in the coming months.

Disu has consistently framed personnel welfare as inseparable from effective policing. In the latest statement, the Force reiterated its determination to improve accommodation, support systems, and overall living standards so officers can better discharge their constitutional duties.
