Davido Claims Four Embassies Contacted Him After Flagging Osun Election Plot to Trump
Osogbo / Lagos – August 12, 2026 — Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that four foreign embassies, including the United States Embassy, contacted him after he publicly reported an alleged plot to rig the Osun State governorship election and tagged US President Donald Trump.
The revelation, made in a circulating video, has sent ripples through political circles ahead of Saturday’s keenly contested poll, in which Davido’s uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, is seeking re-election against the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.
Social Media Appeal Draws Diplomatic Attention
Davido had earlier taken to X to urge President Trump and the international community to pay close attention to the Osun election.
In his posts, the dual Nigerian-American citizen expressed fears of tension, violence, intimidation, and possible disruption of the democratic process.
“Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear,” he wrote, appealing for protection of voters and respect for every ballot.
He later defended tagging Trump by noting that the US leader is also “my president.” In the follow-up video, Davido said the embassies’ outreach came as a direct result of his social media intervention and shared a partial screenshot he linked to the contacts.
He also highlighted the power of social media in drawing global attention to the election.
Heightened Stakes in Osun
The August 15 election has been marked by rising political tension and reports of pre-election violence. Security agencies have indicated plans to deploy thousands of police and civil defence personnel to maintain order.
Davido, who has been actively mobilizing support for his uncle’s campaign, had earlier warned during a live session that he would involve Trump and even take his concerns to the White House if he believed the process was compromised.
His latest claims have amplified calls for international scrutiny while intensifying the already charged atmosphere between the ruling state government and the APC opposition.
As of Wednesday, there has been no public confirmation from the US Embassy, other foreign missions, the White House or the State Department regarding any contact with the singer.
The development has nonetheless fuelled discussion online and within political camps about the role of celebrity influence and international attention in Nigerian elections.
With just days to the poll, all eyes remain on Osun State as stakeholders, security agencies and observers prepare for what many describe as a high-stakes contest.
Davido’s intervention has ensured that the election is no longer just a local affair but one under the watchful eyes of both domestic and international audiences.
