Oloyede Hails Successor Aina as Tech Expert Best Positioned to Transform JAMB Digitally

In a moment of gracious leadership transition that has drawn widespread attention across Nigeria’s education sector, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, the outgoing Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has publicly endorsed his successor, Professor Segun Aina, as uniquely qualified to advance the board’s technological capabilities.

Speaking in remarks captured and shared by ARISE NEWS, Oloyede stated that Aina, a renowned professor of computer engineering, is “in a better position to maximize the use of technology in JAMB.”

He expressed confidence that the new registrar would outperform him in leveraging digital tools to further strengthen the examination body.

The comments came as Oloyede formally handed over leadership of JAMB to Aina on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the board’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, ending a transformative 10-year tenure that began in 2016.

President Bola Tinubu had appointed Aina in May 2026 to succeed Oloyede, whose second and final term expired at the end of July.

At about 40 years old, Aina becomes the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history. A professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, he holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, a Master’s in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom.

He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

Beyond academia, Aina brings more than 15 years of experience advising federal and state governments on digital transformation, institutional reforms, and systems design.

He has consulted for examination bodies such as the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) on ICT systems and examination integrity — credentials that align closely with Oloyede’s emphasis on technology.

Oloyede’s decade at JAMB was marked by significant reforms, including strengthened examination integrity, improved operational systems, and efforts to curb malpractice. In his handover reflections, he expressed pride in leaving the institution stronger than he found it.

Aina, for his part, has pledged to consolidate those gains while intensifying the fight against examination malpractice through transparency, technology, and legal measures.

The smooth transition has been widely viewed as a positive example of institutional continuity.

Stakeholders note that Aina’s technical background positions him well to address evolving challenges in Nigeria’s tertiary admissions process, from digital infrastructure to data-driven reforms, at a time when technology remains central to credible examinations.

As Aina settles into the role, expectations are high that the computer engineering expert will build on Oloyede’s foundation and usher JAMB into a new phase of innovation and efficiency.
