Twenty-three-year-old Ezekiel Nathaniel produced a commanding performance to win gold in the men’s 400-metre hurdles, while Udodi Onwuzurike fought bravely to secure silver in the men’s 200 metres.

Nathaniel, the Nigerian record holder, stopped the clock at 48.47 seconds to claim his first Commonwealth Games title.

South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile edged him for gold in 19.96 seconds, while Jamaica’s Christopher Taylor finished third in 20.11 seconds.

Running a strong bend and holding his form down the home straight, Onwuzurike narrowly held off Taylor to add another valuable medal to Nigeria’s growing tally.
