Lagos Police Smash Cult Gang in Imota: Three Arrested, Arms Haul Recovered

Lagos, July 22, 2026 - In a decisive strike against cultism and violent crime in Lagos State, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected cultists during a targeted intelligence-led operation in the Imota area.

The swift action, which yielded a significant cache of firearms and dangerous weapons, underscores the Command’s proactive stance in safeguarding residents and dismantling criminal networks.

Acting on credible intelligence from vigilant members of the public about the activities of suspected cultists, operatives stormed a location in Imota and apprehended Jelili Adeyemo (37), alleged to be the group’s armourer, alongside Bisoye Adewale (42) and John Okeafo (60).

The operation highlights the critical role of community-police collaboration in early threat detection.

Exhibits recovered during the raid paint a disturbing picture of the group’s capabilities: one Beretta pistol, one locally made pistol, seven Dane guns, ten live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, one stun gun, two handcuffs, four cutlasses, and additional items.

Preliminary investigations link the suspects to the Aiye Confraternity, with the Beretta pistol reportedly belonging to a notorious cultist known as “Mayibone,” who remains at large.

The images released by the police depict the suspects alongside the array of weapons, serving as a stark visual deterrent. Authorities have since arraigned the trio in court, where they have been remanded.

Efforts continue to apprehend fleeing members and recover more arms.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to eradicating cultism and other violent crimes.

“We will continue to tackle these threats head-on,” he stated, while commending the operatives and appealing to residents for ongoing support through timely information.
