Omugo, Kwara State - In a story that blends profound relief with gratitude to God and security forces, abducted worshippers of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Omugo, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, have regained their freedom after 105 days in captivity.

The successful rescue operation, carried out on Monday by a joint team of the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, and local vigilantes, ended a nightmare that began on March 22, 2026, when gunmen invaded the church during a Sunday worship service.

Community Leader Shares Mixed Emotions and Thanks

Prince Oladimeji Ladi Thompson, President of the Omugo Development Union, confirmed the development and expressed deep gratitude.

β€œToday, with grateful hearts, we give all glory to Almighty God because the remaining mothers in captivity have finally regained their freedom and have been reunited with their families,” he stated.

While the community mourns the five worshippers who tragically lost their lives in captivity β€” including the wife of the church’s minister, Rev. Timothy Omole β€” the safe return of the survivors has brought immense joy and a sense of renewed hope.

Acts of Solidarity and Security Collaboration

During the 105-day ordeal, the kidnappers demanded a hefty ₦1 billion ransom, later reduced through negotiations.

Community members raised approximately ₦20 million along with food and supplies, demonstrating extraordinary unity and sacrifice.

Thompson praised the collaborative efforts of security agencies, traditional rulers (including the Oloro of Oro Ago and the Olomugo of Omugo), vigilantes, and community members both at home and in the diaspora for their financial support, prayers, and steadfast solidarity.

Looking Ahead with Hope

The community leader has urged displaced residents to return home, assuring them that enhanced security measures are now in place.

He called for continued unity as Omugo rebuilds stronger than before.

This rescue stands as a testament to the effectiveness of joint operations, community resilience, and faith in the face of adversity.

It offers encouragement to other communities facing similar challenges and highlights positive strides in Nigeria’s security response capabilities.
