INEC Extends Voter Registration, Launches Online Self-Service

Abuja, Nigeria – July 3, 2026 — In a move welcomed by many as a step toward greater electoral inclusion, Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks and introduced a pioneering self-service online registration option for first-time voters.

The announcement, made via official press release on Friday, comes after reviewing ongoing operations and gathering input from state offices, political parties, civil society groups, and other stakeholders.

Originally set to end on July 10, 2026, the CVR — which began on August 18, 2025 — will now run until Friday, July 24, 2026.

This extension provides additional time for eligible Nigerians who have not yet registered, transferred their details, replaced lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or corrected their biodata.

Eligible first-time voters can now initiate and largely complete their registration process online through the dedicated CVR portal (cvr.inecnigeria.org), including biometric capture using personal devices — without needing to visit a physical INEC office.
