Ibadan, Oyo State - A major breakthrough has been recorded in the investigation of the recent school abduction in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, following the arrest of six suspected collaborators allegedly linked to the criminal network behind the kidnapping.

The Oyo State Police Command disclosed that the suspects were apprehended through intelligence-led operations and strategic surveillance that exposed a web of local informants, logistics suppliers, and financial intermediaries allegedly working with the kidnappers.

According to security sources, two key suspects identified as Babangida and Kabiru were arrested in the Ojoo area of Ibadan while reportedly attempting to collect ransom proceeds on behalf of the armed gang operating within the forest corridor.

Investigators believe the duo played critical roles in providing logistical support and facilitating communication between the kidnappers and their external contacts.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Adewuyi, Ayanwola, and Rafiu, who are reportedly from Gbugbu in Kwara State and Ago-Are in Oyo State.

Security operatives allege that the suspects assisted in the movement of funds and intelligence used by the kidnappers to evade detection.

Authorities also uncovered three bank accounts allegedly used as temporary channels for receiving and distributing ransom payments destined for the criminals hiding in forest camps.

The accounts have since attracted the attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria and relevant anti-corruption agencies, which are reportedly tracing financial transactions connected to the case.

In a related development, military personnel arrested a university student identified as Adeleye after he was allegedly found in possession of a victim’s mobile phone.

Investigators further traced electronic ransom demands sent to affected families directly to a device linked to the suspect.

Despite the arrests, security reports indicate that the principal kidnappers responsible for the school abduction remain at large and are yet to be captured.

Intelligence gathered by investigators suggests that local collaborators provided detailed guidance on navigating routes around the Old Oyo National Park, helping the criminals avoid military checkpoints and security patrols.

The latest arrests underscore the growing role of informant networks in Nigeria’s kidnapping crisis, highlighting the urgent need for stronger intelligence gathering, financial surveillance, and community cooperation in the fight against organized criminal gangs.
