Oyebanji Signs Landmark Reforms To Reshape Ekiti Governance

Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has unveiled two far-reaching legislative reforms aimed at strengthening governance, deepening democratic institutions, and modernizing the administration of justice in Ekiti State, marking what many observers describe as a significant milestone in the state’s institutional development.

The governor announced the signing of the new laws during activities commemorating the third anniversary of the 7th Ekiti State House of Assembly, emphasizing that sustainable development can only be achieved through strong and functional institutions rather than dependence on individuals.

According to Oyebanji, the reforms are designed to bring governance closer to the people while improving efficiency, accountability, and service delivery across the state.

“Strong institutions are the true foundation of effective governance,” the governor stated, underscoring his administration’s commitment to building structures that can endure beyond political tenures.

One of the newly enacted legislations, the Local Government Amendment Law, establishes professional legislative departments within local government councils across Ekiti.

The initiative is expected to strengthen grassroots governance by enhancing the quality of lawmaking, improving administrative coordination, and creating more structured legislative processes at the local level.

Highlighting the significance of the reform, Governor Oyebanji noted that citizens deserve a justice system that goes beyond punishment.

“Our citizens deserve a legal system that does not just punish but actively works to heal, reform, and restore communities,” he said.

The governor also commended the leadership of the 7th Assembly for its collaboration with the executive arm, describing the relationship as a productive partnership that has enabled the passage of critical laws and policies aimed at improving the lives of Ekiti residents.
